You didn't follow the instructions properly; either you forgot to apply the crack or any other form of patcher that comes with the game.
Basically it is asking for you to enter the CD to play the game, this is why we apply a crack as suggested in the BL game faq

Ignore what KarumA has stated for this game as it doesn't have a no CD patch, Like ToC you must have the CD or demontool CD in order to play it So pop in the CD and can play the game Win 7 and all.
