    Mkv to avi

Since many many fansubbers are staring to use MKV more often than not, I am in need of a program that will convert MKV to AVI while leaving the subtitles in tact. I tried a few programs, but they don't seem to leave the subtitles in. Any help appreciated, thanks!

Since the subtitle in .mkv is not burnt in (meaning they are softsubs), you have to extract the subtitle first. The program I use for it is MKVextractGui. After that, convert your .mkv to .avi or whichever format you want. Name the extracted subtitles the same as your video file, and play them in VLC, Zoom Player, BS player, etc.

    Hope this helps ^^

If you need burned-in subs so that you can play back your AVI on something that doesn't support softsubs, you can find a guide here.

I've tried a way with changing other formats in .avi formats. I don't know if it will work for you, but you can try. The videos that I converted has hardsubbs instead of softsubs, but it should work since you're only changing the video.

First, I opened up Internet Explorer, an empty page will do. Then I clicked on the video I want to convert and drag it to the empty page. I waited a few seconds and a 'Save' window popped up. Then I do the same thing as I do normally when I save a video, pick a place to save it and put the name. After the name of the video, put '.avi', then save. It should save as a new file with the format .avi. For example, if the file is Yaoi, save it as Yaoi.avi, then save.

Hope it works for you. =^.^=

why do you want to convert them?

also: what codecs or codec packs do you have installed?

I use ALL to avi, the subtitles font isn't that good, but of course you can change it, as well you may can use VLC to play it...or the problem is because the size is bigger???
And in ALL to avi you may lose a little of Video Quality, but it turns out good, as well that one you can make in other stuff, like MP4 and so. If you have question about it let me know!!!

Haven't tried out that program yet. But, I'm wondering, does the program recognize even the softsubtitles that are inside of matroska file (meaning you don't see them as separate files)? And how does the program save them? As separate file, or it "burns" them in the converted .avi file?
