mp4 + media player classic = playback problem

So I have normally been using HorribleSubs for my Naruto fix, but I had to download Taka's sub for Naruto 117 this week.

ALL of my other media plays fine. I can't find any other mp4's to play, but I'm confident that it's only Taka's fansubs.

I've downloaded the 420p and the 700-something p, and they both do the same thing:

When I try to play it, MPC either automatically pauses and will not play when I hit play, or the sound plays VERY choppily and slow but the screen stays black and the slider doesn't move. It's as if my CPU is being drained but the performance levels are fine when I'm trying to play.

I can't figure it out - I've googled it and everything, got all my codecs and filters and junk like that, and every other video format plays fine.

Help please?

Maybe you can try using another player, like VLC.

It's not very clear what are you asking. Is it only the subs that don't play or the whole anime

1. If it's the subs, and they are hardsubs on pc they should play fine. if not is not much you can do unless reencoding the whole thing

2. If it's the anime that plays bad and it is HD than your system does not support HD

It is one episode of a subbed anime subbed by a certain sub group, Taka Fansubs.

I usually download this anime subbed by a different sub group, HorribleSubs. Their subs work fine, and they are HD rips. So my computer obviously supports HD.

I have no idea what you mean by #1 up there. :<

Sounds like a corrupt video file to me, most likely a botched encode since it affects both size-versions (or they might be using an old/glitchy codec). Another player may be able to get past the error . . . but I'd suggest not going back to Tama again if you can help it. Do test the checksum or at least verify the filesize to make sure you haven't been hit by bad uploads, though.

If you want other mp4's to test with, just in case, look for anything subbed by Frostii (Black Jack TV, frex).

Being an HD rip doesn't necessarily mean that the stream is HD. Tonikaku, since you tell me that your pc supports HD the only logical conclusion is that it's a flawed rip / encode.

Thanks for your help. I've downloaded other Taka stuff and it seems to have the same result, so what you're saying makes sense - they probably encode with a bad codec.

I'm still gonna test it and try another player as well.. but I think I'll close this now.
