i think this rule should be put onto the Main forum rules post as i have had a friend who was banned due to advertising (she did have previous points). as this is something you have strong feelings about this should be put somewhere that is very clear and not somewhere you would look after the event

No one would be banned for advertising. They would be given a warning/infraction.

Getting banned after creating an advertising thread would only occur if such a person may have broken so many rules and gotten so many warnings in a relatively short time-frame, that when they reached their threshold of warnings, the system automatically banned them.

(Believe me, very few people have such flagrant disregard for the site rules that they actually reach this threshold.)

Perhaps you should ask your friend to tell you the truth of what happened?

Im sry for the way i worded my previous post.yeah she did have warnings and this added to a ban but still if u can get warning points from advertising it is still an important rule and i just feel that it should be in the Main site rules. i also say this because when i was looking at the rules i almost missed this thread. if you look where this rule is explained it is really all notices and not rules and well i think people would notice it more if it was placed with the other rules of the forum
i really didnt mean to cause a problem just thought i would give a suggestion to help to keep people from getting warnings

I have a question about advertising myself...

Are you allowed to post a certain link in your post that is related to the topic to show another member? Like say someone was looking for a certain couple under that anime name and someone showed that person a link of that coupling, would that be not allowed?

Edit: Um, weird, I must have skipped over that when I skimmed looking an answer to my question so I didn't have to ask a question that has already been answered but I guess I already did. ^^; Sorry.

Another exception is: In the Tech Help section or in similar cases, A user may request info that may require someone giving them an external link - that is allowed.

The purpose of this rule isn't to totally stop people from sharing useful links.

It's purpose is to stop people from creating spam threads for the purpose of generating traffic to another site.
(eg: Creating a thread: "Hey, everybody - look at my website." etc)
