Review:
Today I want to start off by reading a short and sweet yaoi story, even though I might have more pressing things to do. To unwind and relax is the aim. I want some hot smex, but at the same time, a good plot. Is that too much to ask?
Itsuki is a college student who, as a result of being bullied in the past, has difficulty building meaningful relationships with others. His childhood friend Takuma wants to help him become more sociable. But the story doesn’t focus on the relationship between Itsuki and Takuma.
From midnight to the early morning hours, Itsuki listens to the radio. He loves listening to the radio personality Yunoguchi Arata. So used is Itsuki to Yuno-san’s voice that he has no trouble recognising him when they meet in a bookshop by chance. Itsuki admires Yuno for being able to speak so confidently and fluidly to a “faceless audience.” But in their first meeting, Itsuki suddenly confesses his love to Yuno?!
The story is very relatable and told from both Itsuki and Yuno’s perspective. The thoughts, worries and wants of the characters are clearly depicted with the effective use of internal monologue. The relationship between Itsuki and Yuno is not so clear-cut at first, but after the time-skip, things become more interesting…
The smex is cute, hot and steamy, but not the focus of the story. If you like to see character development, you’ll enjoy this story. Readers will feel their heart warm up at times, squeeze at some other, and with an occasional pinch of sadness.
After this quick read, I feel refreshed and ready to start today’s tasks! I rate this manga 8/10.

Manga Title: Insomnia
Manga Artist: Paperjeans & Oriya

Review:
Collaborative works are always fun because you get to enjoy the talents of at least two people on every page. Insomnia is a manhwa which tells the interconnected story of a number of guys whose main connection is the bar they frequent called Insomnia. Here we meet Omi, who has a boyfriend named Akira but is friends with Hiroshi, who once had a thing with Naoru and works for Yukihiko, who owns the bar and has an ex named Hideo and nephew named Sen, who has a friend named Yuichi but works at Insomnia as well and gets to meet Omi… You get the picture: interconnected! The plot starts with the encounter between Omi and Sen and from there it moves on to explore the stories of the other characters. That said, it’s not as confusing to follow as you would think and really illustrates the power of human connection – threads of the past, present and future tangling together to weave a good story.
I happened upon this manhwa by chance, and luckily it isn’t that difficult to track down the rest of the chapters as well Hiroshi and Naoru’s spin-off story. I love the art style because it’s rather different from the usual Japanese style bishie boys but still conveys the beauty of the characters. The characters themselves are rather varied too, including playboys, sensitive souls, cool guys, mysterious men and the innocent types. I suppose you could liken this manhwa to a K-drama because it’s of the interactions between the various characters, which broadens the scope for storylines and is different from other stories which usually focus on one main couple. Intriguing to say the least, this manhwa is full of potential and I can’t wait to see where the sleepless nights lead for these boys...

Manga title: Mou Ichido, Nando Demo
Manga artist: Aniya Yuiji

Review:
Aniya Yuiji defies all predictability with this beautifully unique title. Aniya-sensei is simply a genius for combining a sweet plot with dirty sex as if it was the most natural combination ever.
Story: Two volumes isn’t enough to explore the intricacy and depth of the relationship between Fuji Takahiro and Kotou Tarou. The story begins at the peak of our main couple’s relationship: their soon-to-be engagement. The drama ensues from page 1, dragging the reader into an emotional rollercoaster of amnesia, misunderstandings, time skips, and of course… smut!!! The reader will come to understand how their relationship blossoms from being sex friends into the most steadfast mutual love I’ve ever seen in yaoi, against all odds. Truly beautiful.
Art: Aniya-sensei’s art style is very natural - comical at times, yet beautiful in moments that count. Oh, and the sex scenes are explicit, which is very important!
Characters: Kotou appears to be carefree and loose upon first glance, but he is actually a very serious, dedicated person. Fuji is just a passing acquaintance in high school and his straightlaced personality makes him wary of Kotou’s carefree appearance at first. But as he comes to understand Kotou, he can’t help but fall in love. Kotou and Fuji are complete opposites, yet they’re completely perfect for each other because the one thing they have in common is that they love each other unconditionally.
Conclusion: It is difficult to review this title without spoiling even a small fraction of it, but since it was recently translated, I needed – that’s right, NEEDED – to write this review and tell everyone to go and read this title immediately. You may not realize it yet, but you need Kotou and Fuji in your life. Extra bonus: listen to the drama CD too, because it’s fap worthy. Mmhmm.
