Aarin chatroom?

I know we have a shoutbox, but how about a chatroom? Something that's more for the users to use exclusively, and with bigger space for longer conversations. (I notice in the shoutbox only a handful of lines are displayed, and no can go back and see what other people are talking about.)

There can be a moderator who moderates anything that may get out of hand, too.

Thoughts?

Well... Aarinfantasy already has a chatroom, on Rizon.net via IRC.

Maybe a non IRC chatroom? For those who aren't familiar with the application? And something that's directly connected with the forum.

I don't know many people who still use IRC nowadays, especially with manga files being shared on host servers so much.

As weird it may seem, there are still ppl using IRC, and not only for leeching purposes. That aside, I think in the chitchat-section we can spam as much as we like, so creating a "chatroom" there won't be much of a problem. I don't see much purpose in a chatroom, considering the social groups, message boards and shoutbox. *nods* Enough communication opportunities.

We HAD a chatroom - it was disabled because simply put...people just don't know how to act or be civilized apparently. I doubt the staff will open the site to that kind of travesty again.

Could you explain what you mean by "travesty?" What was so horrible, that you'll never open AF to a chatroom again?

1.)People constantly getting into awful fights and flaming matches
2.)Cybersex

The webchat became (IMO) like the seedy underbelly of the site - and very fast. Most of the users on the site didn't even want to go there anymore because it had become an unpleasant and unwelcoming place to be. At that point - it had outlived it's usefulness to the community.

Just to name the things that come to mind...


Forgive me for saying so too (or not) - but a noticeably great part of your activity on this site seems to be asking for/demanding one new thing after another to be implemented.

One would think that if the staff were to be particularly receptive to requests - it would be from members who actually make good use of the site as it exists now and concentrate on being a valued members of this community.

To each his/her own I suppose, though ... and if this is an inappropriate observation, then mods/admins - please delete this statement or take whatever other action you see fit.

Just feels like it needed to be said.

i think Shoutbox is more than enough. We already have it, and there has been dramas, flame wars, hints of cybering etc. so chat room would be just worse.
We already have chit chat, and groups, and those would lost their purpose a little if chat room would be opened, again.

The final decision lies with the admins of course because they would have to implement the feature in some way, but I still want to point out a few things which make it more unlikely than likely to have another chatroom.

We had one and it basically ended like other users already wrote. There was cybersex, arguing and flaming, with the users coming to us for help, complaints and such, with the staff having to pick up the pieces all the time. Of course it is our job as staff to help users with forum issues, but the old user plane chat resulted in so much problems that it was decided to remove it.

There are already several ways to chat in the forum:

• shoutbox (which also allows now to exchange private shouts),
• the AF IRC channel (yes, people still do use it for chatting and trying out new programs never hurts),
• the profile messages,
• the social group messages,
• the whole ChitChat section,
• PMs.
• many users also have chats on services like msn parallel to being on the forum.

And I don't really understand what is meant by "more for the users to use exclusively"... ^^;

To CLARIFY on my part, demanding/asking for new features is NOT what I'm doing!

Making suggestions that I think would improve the forum is not what you call demanding something. And to validate whether my suggestion is good or bad, I bring it up for others to share their thoughts. Then I share my thoughts on their thoughts. That is what this forum's section is for, isn't it?

To ask honestly, why do you think asking for others' opinions is a demanding thing to do? And why do you think my suggestions are demands?

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean. Please show me what you mean by "demanding" specifically, if I'm mistaken.

Bottom line: you're wrong on presuming making suggestions to improving the forum are equal to making demands. You're saying that by making constructive suggestions on improvement makes me someone who doesn't appreciate this forum as it is? What exactly makes you think this?

I'm upset you'd make such a uninformed presumption - have you actually read what I wrote?
