My guess is that if they are asking English speaking sites to stop handing their work out, they are most likely planning on translating some works into English. I hope they are! But we will only see in time.

And it's not as if they are trying to conquer a world market, by selling english publications as well, which would be automatically accessible for a larger audience.
again, i'm not gonna pretend like i know exactly what's going on here, but i guess i should have clarified that i think this is more about their market inside japan than outside of it. manga makes up around 40% of the publishing market there, but if tons of raw scanned manga is available to anyone on the internet, you can bet that there are lots of japanese who are downloading and reading for free rather than spending the money on a magazine or tankoubon.

this may be an english-language site, but i'm pretty sure there's more raw scanned manga on here than even scanlations, because for one thing raw scans are a part of the scanlation process. so if a publishing company is going to crack down on the free distribution of their works online, they have to include ALL forms of distribution, including translated scans.

that's how it seems to me, anyway.

Right you are army about the raw scans!

Either way can you really blame them? I imagen they lose a lot of money though scans. They have to earn money like the rest of us! So I really do not mind them asking not to share their stuff.

Seconding Army Kitten on this. It's the same thing with anime raws--their potential customers, the people who understand the language, can get it for free and that's what the publisher's concern is. I'm not surprised the company knows about this place. Aarin's the best English site to get manga raws from and you don't have to jump through hoops, like with Chinese forums, to get in (which is very nice when you're trying to figure out which magazine volume the second part of a oneshot is in so you can buy it. JPQ can only tell you so much T__T).

Think on the bright side maybe they're pulling all there manga scans off the net because they're preparing to license all their manga in english.

It would be great if there were rumors of licensing agreements, it would make this a little more palatable. Unfortunately, since my Japanese is limited to Doki (hey, that's an achievement) I depend upon scanlations for my Yaoi fix. I just hope that other publishers don't follow suit in the near future.

I think this is the reason why most publishers tolerate this illegal act.
That's how I feel about it too.

On one hand, they are losing money by the free DL, but on the other, how much more money will they be making in terms of free advertising and less effable earnings such as 'good will' and information. They 're getting a LOT of free 'reading' and economic forecasting information on which their books might be worth having translated by how it is doing in the 'underground.

If they were smart, they would use these hidden benefits to their advantage and go along with the unspoken agreement that's already in place that, by the way, many fan translators follow - once the work had been officially licensed by a publishing company it is removed from the net.

Luffy Seishirou Takaya

well, all and all, they don't want their scan to be here, but for us to wait for their ass to get into gear and tranlated it into english, which mind you, would take an eternity, that's why i'm learning japanese...oh well, it their right after all, of course, if it was me, i could care less, not all of us have the money to toss down the drain on books, life isn't easy you know...not that they care right? anywho, shutting up now.
