one thing that i've always found frustrating is that when people talk about corporations being rich and evil etc. they tend to forget that if the corporations suffer losses, it's not the people at the top (the rich and arguably evil ones) who are actually hurt by it. it's everyone at the bottom—all the menial workers struggling to get by on minimum wage who don't have the money, power, or job security to protect them when a corporation has a profit loss.

like the people who think they're sticking it to the man when they steal from a store owned by a large corporation—walmart, for example. as if. the people at the top of the pyramid (CEOs, store managers) aren't going to feel that loss, they're just going to lay off as many of the part-time workers (who can barely afford to live on their crappy wages anyway) as it takes to make up for the loss.

if a large company like CORE loses money through raw scans, do you think that the CEOs (the "corporation") are gonna eat that cost? or do you think they're going to not hire as many new mangaka, not feature your favorite mangaka who just happens to be not as popular, or cut down on publications entirely? manga may be our love, but it's also a business, and it will be the MANGAKA who lose work/jobs when a company like CORE is suffering profit loss from raw downloads.
